The Slovenian road traffic regulations require the use of winter tyres on vehicles from 15 November to 15 March.  While the mandatory period for the use of winter tyres in Slovenia is from 15 November to 15 March, it’s important to note that drivers must still take the necessary precautions in the event of winter conditions beyond 15 March. This means that even after the specified dates, if winter weather conditions persist or return, vehicles must be properly equipped to ensure safety on the roads.

What are the rules in neighbouring countries? In Croatia, the requirement for winter tyres is from 15 November to 15 April, while in Bosnia and Herzegovina it is from 1 November to 1 April. Serbia and Austria take a condition-based approach, requiring winter tyres with a minimum tread depth of four millimetres in winter conditions, such as when roads are covered with snow, slush or ice. The specified period for Austria is from 1 November to 15 April and for Serbia from 1 November to 1 April. Italy’s rules are less uniform, with winter equipment generally compulsory between 15 November and 15 April in signposted areas, although there are some local exceptions. Conversely, Hungary does not enforce any specific winter equipment regulations.
