A total of 17 Slovenian companies have made it to a list of the 500 biggest companies in Central Europe compiled by the auditing firm Deloitte. Energy group Petrol is Slovenia’s highest entry in 37th place with revenue of EUR 3.27bn last year.

Biggest Slovenian retailer Mercator d.d. , in 46th place, is the only other firm among the top 100. There are several entrants among the top 200, including home appliances maker Gorenje d.d. from Velenje (128th), power utility HSE (133th), Renault car maker Revoz (172nd) and drug maker Krka (185th).

Like last year, the list is topped by Polish oil firm PKN Orlen, which had revenues of EUR 26bn, followed by Hungarian oil company MOL and Czech car maker Skoda, according to Deloitte.

Deloitte also compiled lists of the top 50 banks and insurers in the region. Slovenia’s NLB bank is in 9th place among banks, while NKBM is in 43rd. There are four Slovenian firms among the top insurers, with Zavarovalnica Triglav in 6th place.
